Sorry most of these pix are so dark, I usually get them better than this! The cams can be a real pain to time if you have the strong springs and high lift cams. The exhaust cam will keep trying to turn to the left while you are working. There is a cam locking tool sold by Matco and Snap-On to deal with this problem. I used some small clamps and safty wire to hold things in place till I got my marks lined up.
One of the things Chrysler does not hold a tight tolerence on is the cam timing! If you are down to this point, ... it is silly not to find someone to help you degree in your cams! ... EVEN in the car, ... it is not impossible to do and can pay big benifits in horse power, if you do it righ! ... assuming your cams are off now.
*** The pins in the cams are very small and brittle!! If you try to turn the cams with the bols out, .. or not tightened, you will break a pin that is so hard, you can not drill it out!! Don't ask me how I know, .. please! |
