This is the first time I have been able to get dyno info, that was not from the the maker of the system. These are two real guys, most of you on the club chats have been reading and/writing to us about our projects. This was not a planned thing. PowerTrip and I had our dyno tests done, about the same time, in different parts of the world. I am not going to say this is a scientific test. He lives in Canada, I'm thousands of miles away, or just a click of the mouse!! ... aint that cool!!! But this should give you a look at the nature of the two systems the way the pavement sees them. ... Let's go burn some "Newtons", ... ahee, old chap?!!
I am not trying to start a war or a contest. Someone had posted a very nice message to help inform a fellow PT owner about the differences in the SC and turbo approaches to forced induction. The guy was trying to decide which way might be better for him. The more I read, the more it sounded like a Super Charger commercial, or one of our "Political adds", we got so tired of, from last year. The turbo was not getting much credit, except for top end power. ... I had to either do this, ...or take the guy for a ride!! I was reading the post and started seeing things about "turbo lag" as a matter of fact. SCs making much more grunt down low, easier to install, less tweeking and adjusting. Even easier to take off ... NONE of this have I experianced! ... I don't know where these notions came from, except the 1970's or 80's. The last 10-15 years have been a complete re-birth for the turbocharger. Ultra light and strong metals, computor designed turbine wheels and housings, ceramic bearings. The fuel injection and ignitions are so much better controlled by computeres now, as compared to then. ..... Lets just take a look, you add up the numbers, average them, take the bottom half, the middle !!?? ......... as Clint Eastwood would say ......... Go ahead.......... Make my day !
I will continue to post my dyno sheets and time slips from the track, soon as my stage III clutch goes in. Thanks! See ya , Bob
Whipple charger at 7.5 psi, 5 speed car. I don't have any more info, but since this was an early test for PT, I'm sure there were issues he needed to work out as well. ...He had a higher peak HP than shows in the text, because we stopped my test at 5900 rpm and I had no data above that point. PT has indicated that he has made imporvements, as I have since these runs. We are both itching to go again soon!!
Hahn stage I+ turbo, boost at 9, falling back to 6, as I ran. I hung springs on the waste gate, to try to raise the boost. It didn't work very well. 5 speed car... The sag in the TQ and HP curves is because of the springs I was hanging on the wastegate. The dyno test was done in third gear only. On the road I feel that same surge, fall off, surge again in every gear. Now with the GReady boost controller that mess is gone!
